Hi! My name is Jim Shafer and I would like the opportunity to help you sell your home – or buy a new one. From the time I was little, I have always had a service mindset. Whether it was selling portrait photography before I was 10 in my family’s business, pursuing a business law degree, or finally, selling residential real estate today, I have always strived to live up to certain principles.
1. Listen with compassion and empathy.
2. Speak with tact and decency.
3. Attend to the details.
4. Solve problems with creativity.
5. Stay humble and open to learning.
In many ways, I try to model my behavior after my dogs - Energetic. Positive. Loyal. Friendly. Always learning. Love people. Love snacks.
In 2011, my wife and I moved to Grand Rapids. At the time, I was a practicing healthcare business attorney. We fell in love with Grand Rapids and West Michigan. Within a few months, yearning to explore new horizons and use my legal training in new ways, I obtained my real estate license and started selling homes in and around Grand Rapids. From that time, I’ve definitely explored many horizons – downtown condos, city neighborhoods, suburban subdivisions, rural farmland and lakeside cottages. I am a member of the NAR, Michigan Realtors, GRAR and the Women’s Council of Realtors. I currently serve as a commissioner for the Rockford Housing Commission and am on the Community Involvement Taskforce for GRAR.
I will bring my principles, experiences and education to bear on your real estate needs – When it’s time to sell your home, you can count on me.
But who am I outside of real estate?
My wife and I live near Robinette’s on the NE side of Grand Rapids with 3 rescue dogs who also double as my “licensed” real estate assistants – Oz (10), Zander (8) and Hazel (1). I have a daughter who is 19 and a son who is 17. I love hiking, cycling, being outdoors in general, gardening, suburban farming, reading and cooking tasty food. Oh, and dogs! I love dogs. All animals, really. But, definitely dogs. They’re angels with fur.
